What is The Short & the Long of It?

Different people in different life stages pray differently, and everyone's time is important. Choosing a small piece of time to intentionally pray with the community weekly can be a big sacrifice.

These prayer guides are designed with that in mind.

Some people may use just “The Short of It” section—or even just the title for their own prayers on the topic.

"The Short of It" readers may be...

  • Emergency room staff

  • Single working parents

  • Caregivers

  • People with limited attention spans

  • High-demand office employees

  • Poultry line employees

  • Stay at home parents of young children

  • Reading the prayer guide in a second language

  • Farmers during harvest season

  • Those who are just learning or relearning to pray

Other people may prefer “The Long of It,” or even both the Short and Long sections each week, to settle into deeper prayer.

"The Long of It" readers may be...:

  • Having a hard time sleeping, and praying with a guide is a relief from scrolling and stressing

  • Waiting for someone else’s lessons, appointments, or practices to end

  • Someone who lives alone and protects calm, quiet mornings with a cup of tea

  • A corporate traveler with lots of layovers who wants those hours to mean something

  • Struggling to pray for that topic, or maybe to pray at all

  • A faithful believer who is waiting for chemo or dialysis to finish, but not waiting to make every moment count

  • Someone who is mobility limited or homebound who knows that their calling still extends well beyond their walls

  • A parent with a little one asleep on his or her chest

Most people will choose their best fit each week based on the topic and their schedule.

The Short and the Long of It Features

The Short and the Long of It rotating features are playful references to things we share here in Northwest Arkansas. We really do have a lot in common, like the nature we treasure, the growing pains we feel, and the foods we enjoy (or can try)! Hopefully, it will also introduce you to some new parts of NWA, whether it is a plant or trail you have never known or a dish you’ve not yet tasted.

These features occasionally highlight local businesses or products. This is not paid placement, and there is no financial tie unless otherwise mentioned. It is just a little celebration of some of the local things we share.
